The institution
The National Coastal Commission is a public establishment with administrative status under the supervision of the Ministry of the Environment, and a coastal management tool established pursuant to Article 24 of Law No. 02-02 of 5 February 2002. It is tasked with overseeing the implementation of the national strategy for protecting and enhancing the coast in general and the coastal zone in particular. This body is specifically responsible for establishing a comprehensive inventory of coastal areas, whether relating to human settlements or natural spaces. Island areas will receive special attention. The organisation, functioning and tasks of this body are defined by regulation.
